Sculptra FAQ
-
Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator that works to diminish facial wrinkles and lines by restoring the deep, underlying structure of the skin. It is a biocompatible, biodegradable filler made with a synthetic material that is naturally absorbed by the body over time to rebuild collagen lost through age or weight loss. Sculptra works with your body to rejuvenate the production of collagen within the deep dermis, revitalizing your skinβs natural structures and volume. As your dermis absorbs the Sculptra microparticles, they stimulate collagen production, gradually restoring lost volume and increasing fullness to wrinkles and folds.

By 45, you face up to 25% collagen loss, but men and women from 25 to 75 have experienced success from Sculptra treatments. If you want to restore a youthful look by increasing volume in the hollow areas of your face, you are likely a good candidate. If you are looking for a gradual, natural, more youthful looking appearance using a semi-permanent filler that helps your body produce its own collagen, Sculptra could be a good option for you.

A consultation is needed prior to your Sculptra treatment, at which time Dr. Lo can discuss your customized treatment plan and let you know how many treatments are needed for your optimal results; typically, three injection appointments are needed over three months. At your treatment, the area is numbed with a topical numbing agent for patient comfort. Dr. Lo or your injector will map the face and then inject Sculptra strategically in areas of volume depletion.

There is little to no downtime after your Sculptra treatment and you may resume normal activities. You will be asked to massage the area during your first week post injection. You may experience redness, swelling and bruising which will resolve within two weeks. Gradually, Sculptra stimulates the body to reproduce lost collagen, so the full results are seen about 8-weeks after your last treatment. The results of Sculptra can last up to two years or longer with optimal treatment.

What areas can be treated with Sculptra?
-
Lower Face
Treat the structural effects of aging in the lower face by filling and lifting deep folds and wrinkles around the mouth. Sculptra can fill and smooth the nasolabial folds or βsmile linesβ which is the area between the nose and mouth, the marionette lines or the lines around the mouth, and the dimpling or wrinkles in the chin.
-
Cheeks and Temples
As we age, we lose volume in certain areas resulting in distortions to the balance and symmetry found in a youthful face. Maintain facial harmony and restore a youthful facial shape by adding volume and fullness to sunken cheeks with Sculptra. Fill and replenish hollow temples and areas around the eyes to provide a softer, younger look.
-
Jawline
Lift a sagging jawline and improve mild jowling with Sculptra. Creating definition and lift can lessen the appearance of loose skin around the jaw and neck area. Treating this area in conjunction with the mid-face and cheeks can provide an effective and natural looking lift to the face, as well as a harmonious transition between areas of the face.
What is the difference between Sculptra and Fillers?
Sculptra works differently from other dermal fillers and is considered more of a volumizer than a wrinkle filler. Other fillers like Juvederm and Restylane are made with hyaluronic acid (HA) and immediately fill areas where they are injected. Sculptra is a collagen stimulator and when mixed with your bodyβs own collagen, it gradually fills and then lifts by stimulating your own collagen production giving you long-lasting rejuvenation results.
