What is a Facelift?
A facelift or rhytidectomy is a cosmetic surgical procedure that reduces sagging or folds of skin on the cheeks and jawline and removes loose skin while tightening tissue around the jowls and lower face. A neck lift or platysmaplasty is often performed as part of our facelift procedures to reduce fat deposits and remove excess crepey skin to sculpt the neck and redefine the profile.
Dr. Lo typically performs the deep plane facelift because of the longevity and improvement of the neck, but we understand not every face is the same. Your facelift procedure will be completely customized based on your aesthetic goals and aging pattern. You can also combine your facelift with other rejuvenation procedures to achieve facial balancing and harmony. Since facelifts target the lower face, they can be combined with a brow lift and blepharoplasty for complete rejuvenation, or we can combine with facial fat transfer to enhance your natural mid-face structure to contour the cheeks and orbital areas.
The Facelift Procedure
Dr. Lo will carefully evaluate each patient. The best candidate will be in good physical and mental health, have realistic expectations of the facelift procedure, understand all risks involved, and be willing to follow pre- and post-operative instructions.
All our procedures are performed at our in-office surgical suite giving patients a tranquil and private surgical experience. Depending on the patient’s comfort level, the facelift procedure can be performed under IV sedation or local anesthesia so there is none of the risks or effects of general anesthesia. During your facelift procedure, an incision is made around the front of the ear and back to the hairline. Underlying tissues and muscles are repositioned, and the skin is lifted and gently smoothed, with excess skin trimmed away. The incision is concealed in the natural contours of the face. The procedure typically takes about 2-hours with additional procedures adding more time.

What can I expect after the Facelift procedure?
After your facelift, you may experience mild to moderate pain, swelling, bruising or numbness. For the first 1-2 weeks after surgery, you’ll be expected to rest with your head elevated, take any prescribed medications as recommended, and wear your facial garment as instructed.
Recovery time is approximately 7-14 days with no exercise for 2-weeks. Social downtime can be longer depending on healing and comfort level. Everyone heals differently but most patients can expect the majority of post-operative swelling to resolve within 2-weeks leaving you with a rejuvenated look that will continue to improve.
