Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are non-surgical rejuvenation treatments that help improve common signs of aging and skin irregularities like acne, scars, wrinkles, sun damage, and rough skin texture.

What is a Chemical Peel?

The chemical peel treatment involves the application of a chemical solution, either a single form or combinations of acid solutions, which effectively penetrate the skin removing old and dead skin cells and causing an increase cellular turnover to allow the new healthy skin to develop. The result is smoother and firmer skin with improved hydration and a brighter, radiant, healthier complexion. There are a range of peel solutions varying from light to deep which can be tailored to your treatment needs. Peels can be applied to men and women of all ages, and can safely treat darker skin types.

Vi Peel

With the promise of new skin in 7-days, the VI Peel delivers a glowing and brighter complexion by improving the tone, texture, and providing anti-aging benefits. The VI Peel is a medium depth, medical grade peel that contains a synergistic blend of powerful ingredients suitable for all skin types. It is a great treatment for first-time peel patients of all age groups or regular peel patients wanting to maintain healthy and radiant skin. All VI Peels are formulated using a synergistic blends of Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) which boosts collagen and exfoliates the skin, Phenol the secret weapon that numbs the skin for a painless application, Retinoic Acid which inhibits melanin production and increases cell turnover, and Salicylic Acid which regulates sebum production and cleanses the lining of the pores. This combination blend of acids allows the VI Peel to penetrate the dermis without the destruction or longer healing time of a deeper peel. The VI formulations have added nutrients such as antioxidant vitamin C along with ingredients for pigment suppression and acne control. VI Peels can be done every 2-4 weeks depending in the specific area of concern.

Which Peel is right for me?

The About Faces Cosmetic Surgery and Med Spa team offers a variety of chemical peels to target a range of skin care concerns. These treatments can be as easy and convenient as a β€œlunchtime” peel or more aggressive like a medium depth peel. After discussing your skincare goals at your consultation, we can tailor a peel regimen that’s perfect for you.

ZO Stimulator Peel

The ZO Stimulator Peel is truly the perfect lunchtime peel – it brightens the complexion and stimulates collagen without the irritation, redness or peeling associated with other peels. With no downtime, you can have this peel done in-office and return to your normal routine right away, and makeup can even be applied after if needed! With a combination of key acids including Glycolic Acid, Citric Acid, Lactic Acid, in addition to other active ingredients to help exfoliate the skin, this peel is ideal for men and women, and is safe to treat any skin type or color. Dr. Zein Obagi, the creator of ZO Skin Health products recommends starting the ZO Stimulator Peel once a week for four weeks and then continuing with maintenance peels as needed. This peel regimen can be just as effective as more aggressive peels and can be a safe, convenient, and cost-effective treatment option.

ZO 3-Step Peel

Also developed by the world-renowned Dr. Zein Obagi, the ZO 3-Step Peel is a revolutionary treatment for a variety of skin concerns including aging, acne, Melasma, sun damage, and uneven texture. The ZO 3-Step Peel has a blend of Lactic, Salicylic, and Trichloroacetic acids (TCA) to support dermal and epidermal stimulation. So, what are the three steps? Step one is the peel application with the three blended acids work to remove the outer layer of dead skin. This step is not painful but it can be a little hot so a fan can be used for patient comfort. The second step is the application of a 6% Retinol Stimulating Creme - we apply half after your peel and the other half is applied the next morning to further the treatment results. This stimulates cellular renewal, collagen stimulation and DNA protection. The third step is the application of the ZO Calming Creme to hydrate, stabilize and restore the skin. This can be applied over the next few days as needed to give the skin a boost of moisture and minimize irritation. After just a few days, you’ll begin to notice brighter, firmer, healthier-looking skin as well as improvements in skin barrier function. Dr. Obagi recommends the ZO 3-Step Peel every 3-4 weeks (at least four times a year) to maintain a glowing complexion.

What if I don’t peel?

The biggest misconception with peel treatments is the assumption you need to physically peel to benefit from the treatment. Everything from dryness to light flaking, and peeling to sheet peeling is considered normal. The peels offered at About Faces Cosmetic Surgery and Med Spa are blended, multi-acid solutions that penetrate through the dermis at a light and medium depth level.

The degree of peeling is affected by many factors. The skin preparation is very important with a peel, skin must be thoroughly cleansed and fully degreased for the optimal penetration of the peel. Having either dry or oily skin can impact the amount of peeling. Dry or dehydrated skin tends to absorb solution very quickly. Oily or congested skin absorbs solution very slowly due to the higher sebum production. Frequency of treatments can change your peeling patterns as well. Patients who receive peel treatments on a regular basis may not see visible peeling because the layers of dead skin cells are at a healthy number.

It is important to remember there will always be cellular turnover, improvements in the texture, tone and overall appearance of the skin whether or not peeling occurs with your peel treatment.

Toxin + Peel

Pair the VI Peel with Botox or Dysport for a Tox-Booster combination treatment. Neurotoxin reduces fine lines and wrinkles while VI Peel corrects pigment resulting in a smooth, relaxed, flawless complexion. These treatments can be done together at one appointment with your peel first, and neurotoxin immediately after. This combination is safe, effective, and you can expect to see less fine lines and pigment within the weeks following your treatment.

Dermplane + Peel

Dermaplane Treatments can be added before the ZO Stimulator Peel to help increase the penetration of the peel and maximize results. Dermplane Treatments use a surgical blade gently passed over the skin the remove dull, dead skin cells and vellus hair (peach-fuzz) allowing the peel solution to easily absorb into the skin. After your Dermaplane, you will notice your skin is incredibly soft and very smooth, and your skincare products and makeup glide easily onto the skin.
